The Frenchmen continue their reign over Relaux! Fresh off the deep house stylings of Midside, we take a genre jibe with Grillz. Living in Lyon, Grillz’s VIBE.QUEST leadership demonstrates his repertoire of rhythm using tracks that sway between slow R&B cruisers and more playful house feels to create our 4th installment. Press play, then read on to see what this Cosmonostro-signed artist is all about.

Hey Grillz, thanks for leading this edition of VIBE.QUEST! We hear you come from a musical family. Do you play similar music to your relatives?

Sometimes I do, to know what they think about a track I’m making : )

Your releases have covered a wide range of genres in just a short time. Do you go back and forth with what you try to produce, or is there a method to your madness?

I produce spontaneously, it depends on my mood, and most of what I listen to. I like to try new things and be constantly in search of new worlds.

What about with the music you listen to?

I listen to almost everything. Especially Hiphop, French and US. I love all kinds of bass music. I also listen to a lot of jazz and soulful music, which are big sources of inspiration. I also like listening to trap or harder genres like glitch hop and jungle. For me it’s more a question of artist than genre : ).

We recently interviewed Lapsley. Any idea if she has heard your edit of “Station”?

Yes she did, she liked it! : )

Can you describe your vision or goal for this VIBE.QUEST mix?

It was really to show my universe. Since I was free to play what I want, I chose several thing I love in every genres.

You’ve worked with the label COSMONOSTRO, what have you  experienced from this?

That’s just the beginning of a long story haha. It gave me the opportunity to get on some collaborations and to be surrounded by other music lovers and makers.

Do you DJ and/or play live? What sorts of shows or tools?

Not yet. Playing DJ sets is good, but that’s not really what I wanna do. I’m thinking about live sets, and ways I could do them. It would probably be with an MPC and guitar, maybe a live synth part as well.

Lastly, if you have any artistic dreams for the future, we’d love to hear about them!

Work hard at getting good at piano. Also make some more collabs with other peeps, get a live set ready and distribute my vibes all around the world : )
